Dressing Emo Style
Dressing dark is an important part of being emo. You want to express your inner blackness, so build off of black. Black should be your foundation for nearly everything, make-up, clothing, and beyond. It doesn’t really matter what else you incorporate into it, as long as it stays dark and it stays you. So decide who you are, and then jazz it up. Accessorize the living daylights out of yourself; think shiny or rainbow or bold. The best part of dressing emo is that it encompasses a wide variety of styles. You can go for a cute feminine look, or head on over to the heavy don’t mess-with-me-I’m-emo look. Or you can mix the two and go anywhere in-between, which is fun because it confuses people.Experiment with black and fluorescent make-up. Cake it on, whether you are a woman or not; we could all do with more on our faces. Don’t forget that it’s lipstick, you want, not lip-loss. Fishnets, combat boots, and chains are ever your dear friends. And don’t forget the hair. Make it big, and make it crazy.
One important thing to remember is that emo broke off of goth, which broke off of punk. You have decades of ancestral inspiration. Look to the past. Throw on your lace and corsets and metal jewelry. But like I said, at the same time, look to yourself, and have fun. Then people will respect you as someone who can go beyond the stereotype and personify this very trendy and unusual look.
